David Bernstein, MD
David Bernstein, MD, is Director of the Gamble Program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, as well as its Vaccine Testing and Evaluation Unit. He also is a Professor in the UC Department of Pediatrics. After completing a fellowship in pediatric infectious disease at the University of California, Dr. Bernstein pursued the immunobiology of genital herpes infections and rotavirus; subsequent work led to the development of a live, attenuated human rotavirus vaccine that ultimately became the GlaxoSmithKline vaccine, Rotarix, now available in more than 100 countries. Dr. Bernstein’s current work includes the evaluation of vaccines and antivirals for herpes simplex and cytomegalovirus in animals, as well as vaccines for influenza, avian influenza, respiratory syncytial virus, norovirus and COVID-19.
